MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the Overcomers Ministry is to
provide Christian support to our congregation
and the community at large who are confronted
with struggles that are hindering their life
recovery efforts. Through the study of God’s
word and prayer we offer a confidential and
supportive environment to those seeking relief
and possible solutions to their pressing and
relevant issues. Our goal in this Ministry is to
help those individuals who are broken and
seeking healing from being overcome.

WHO NEEDS THE OVERCOMERS MINISTRY?
The Overcomers Ministry is for everyone.
Anyone who suffers from such “thorns in the
flesh”, as anger, resentment, grief, shame, guilt
and other emotions, compulsions, family
problems, peer pressure, relationships, finances
and addiction to drugs and alcohol. If you find
that these issues/problems continually “rears its
ugly head’, in your life, then this ministry may be
helpful to you. Jesus said,” Admit your faults one
to another and pray for each other so that you
may be healed,” (James 5:16).
The Good news is that we no longer have to
wage this battle by ourselves….There is help
and HOPE available through the Overcomers
support ministry if we are open to receive it!

HOW CAN THIS MINISTRY HELP ME?

The HOPE of those involved in this ministry is
that we will grow as Christians with our
willingness to commit to this process. In this
ministry we will use the Bible and scripture as a
reference in confronting the issues in our life
which are causing us to struggle. We will also
employ the Spiritual 12 Steps of recovery which
recognizes Jesus Christ as our one and only
Higher Power. The 12 Steps are designed to (1)
reveal our dependence on God, (2) live a life of
increasing self-awareness, and (3) share with
others the comfort we have found through an
ever improving relationship with God
(2 Corinthians 1:3–5). Through group
participation we will share our experience and
hope with others who will be seeking the same
relief and peace of mind we are finding. We
will be effective witnesses to each others
because as a support group we will face our
deepest secrets and worse fears together by
talking about them. We will seek a stronger and
deeper relationship with our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. By participating in this ministry we
learn how to incorporate the spiritual principles,
found in the 12 steps, into our lives as the source
of our strength. We will gain more capacity in
honesty, open-mindedness, willingness,
humility, meekness, compassion, forgiveness,
patience, perseverance, and love. We will learn
how to process our feelings without
embarrassment and interference.

DO I HAVE TO BE AN ADDICT TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS MINISTRY?

No, not all of us must be addicts and/or
alcoholics to participate in this ministry. Please
remember that often drugs and alcohol are just

symptoms of a deeper problem that must be
dealt with and brought to light. We must bring
to light our secrets and fears in order to destroy
the incorrect feelings and beliefs they cause,
thus causing us to act and behave in incorrect
ways. As long as we are willing to step out of
denial and into God’s truth, that we all fall short
of God’s glory and need His help to overcome,
we are teachable. We can share how God has
empowered us to overcome the circumstances
that life throws at us, and that same
empowerment is available to all who truly seek

it.
IS THIS MINISTRY A SAFE PLACE FOR ME TO SEEK HELP?
It goes without saying that we must ensure a safe
environment, one of confidentiality. We can’t
afford to be judgmental or self-righteous (John
8:7). If we are to truly open up and grow, we
must feel safe. What is said and shared in our
groups/meetings cannot be shared with others.
The only possible exception to this is if someone
threatens to hurt themselves or others, and this is
shared only with the proper people or
authorities.
I believe in the recovery process, but most
importantly I believe in God. David tells us in
Psalm 51 what recovery is all about. We admit
our dependence on God, confess our sin, ask for
forgiveness, believe God will create in us a new
heart and a new spirit, and then tell others of His
mercy and grace.
Please be prayerful about participating in this
ministry. Join us and be an eyewitness to God
working miracles in people’s lives. Watch God
restore broken spirits. May you be blessed in
your endeavors?
