HOUSING DISASTER

From a Fannie Mae contact for folks who have lost their homes in the fires:In the event they do lose their home or it is damaged, the one thing I would flag would be to utilize the Fannie Mae Here to Help disaster line. It doesn’t matter which bank currently holds their mortgage, how much is paid off, etc. — they can still get free help on navigating the loss, including talking to housing relief counselors, support contacting mortgage or insurance companies to navigate payment deferral options and help to access recovery assistance including federal and state aid. All of this is usually helpful in the weeks following the disaster, so it is not a must-do in the next few days while they take in the shock, but a good set of resources to lean on in the weeks and months ahead should they experience any major damage or loss of their home.

The number is 855-HERE2HELP; anybody who has experienced a housing disaster can call it.
